Impact of the UTQ on teaching practices assessed

Do teachers change their teaching behaviours after completing the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ)? To gain more insight in the behavioural change of EUR teachers and thus the impact of the UTQ on teaching, Risbo researchers Rick Wolff and Romy van Leeuwen, educational advisor Mandy Hollander and Risbo's UTQ coordinators Emma de Goeje and Jana de Wit investigated this by using the impact research method.

For this study, the team reached out to a selected group of 91 teachers who followed the UTQ trajectory under the same conditions in the academic year 2021-2022 at Risbo. The main research questions that were used in this research project were

  1. What is the realized impact of following the UTQ for participants?
  2. What enhances or restraints participants to act differently in the field?
  3. What are the opportunities to enhance the impact of the UTQ?

Risbo shared the results of the study during a session with the Community of Innovation Capacity of lecturers (CIC): An EUR community of senior teachers who come together on a regular basis, who care about teaching and development and work towards future oriented education. This Community of Practice is made possible by the Community for Learning & Innovation. This session was also meant to harvest all findings and insights together with these stakeholders, gathering as much information to answer question 3. A similar harvesting session was organized with all UTQ trainers.
