Introduction
In this MicroLab, you’ll examine how bias, identity, and your own perspective influence teaching and learning. How can you minimize the impact of bias? What are key elements of inclusive education? How do you navigate sensitive or challenging topics in class? And how can you ensure all perspectives are heard and every student feels included? This MicroLab will help you explore these questions.
You’ll reflect on your role as a teacher, practice intercultural skills, and discover practical strategies to create an inclusive, engaging learning environment where every student’s perspective is valued.

Who is this for?
This MicroLab is designed for teachers who wish to develop or further strengthen their intercultural skills and awareness of their own position and perspective, with the aim of improving intercultural communication with and among students. No specific prior knowledge is required.
Content, form and time investment
In this MicroLab you will explore various factors that shape intercultural communication in education. You will reflect on your own (social) identities and how they intersect, influencing your experiences and teaching practices. You will also examine (unconscious) biases and discuss strategies to minimize their impact in the classroom. Together, we will reflect on the meaning of inclusion and work on practical approaches to foster a safe and accessible learning environment that embraces diversity. In addition, you will engage with key intercultural competencies and consider how to further develop them.
Your preparation begins online in Canvas, where you are introduced to core concepts and encouraged to reflect on your own teaching experiences. During the workshop session (3 hours), you will build on this through interactive activities, discussions, and concrete tools for your educational practice.
