Diary research

The ‘Day Reconstruction Method’ (Kahneman et al., 2004) is a method for asking participants in a survey about the distribution of their time across various activities, and how they perceived the performed activities. Risbo has developed an online version of this method, in the form of ‘Yesterday’s diary’.

In ‘Yesterday’s diary’, participants describe what they did the previous day, by indicating the activities performed per time unit. We can also ask about the participants’ background variables, e.g. where they performed an activity and whether they did it alone or with someone else. Once the participant has completed ‘Yesterday’s diary’, several follow-up questions can be asked at the level of each activity.
