Senior Examination Qualification (SEQ)

For the professionalization of teachers that are (prospective) members of examination boards and/or program coordinators/directors of the EUR Risbo in cooperation with CLI now offers the Senior Examination Qualification (SEQ) course. The aims of this course are to improve knowledge and skills on quality of assessment in higher education, at the level of schools and/or degree programs.

The SEQ is intended for teachers that are (prospective) members of examination boards and/or program coordinators/directors at an Erasmus School or institute. Every participant brings in an ambition or challenge regarding enhancing the quality of assessment within their school, supported by their examination board and management team to ensure knowledge dissemination with the school. Faculty education (policy) advisors can also participate.

Content and organization
With every participant an intake is held to discuss which aspect(s) the participant wants to strengthen in his / her school. The innovation to be addressed needs to contribute to quality (assurance) of assessment within the school or degree program.
5 day-sessions are planned for this course. In preparation for and during the meetings, participants will work on various themes regarding the quality of assessment (such as programmatic assessment). Participants will also analyse and discuss their schoolís assessment policies and the quality of exams. The sessions are set up to be interactive and are focussed on collaborative learning, vision development and application to participantís practice.
The intended learning outcomes are that participants build up expertise regarding assuring the quality of assessment, and that they are able to make strategic choices to safeguard the quality of exams, assessment plans at program level and the exit qualifications.
In addition, tangible work is being done on a relevant quality enhancement project within participantsí school.

A maximum of 15 participants can take part, from different schools/institutes of Erasmus University. We aim to offer the course once a year targeted at members of examination boards and once a year targeted at program coordinators. Tailored in-company SEQ courses for groups form a specific school or institute are also possible. Approximately 55 hours of time investment is required for preparation/homework, meeting attendance and working on SEQ portfolio products.

SEQ certificate
After successful completion of the trajectory particpants are awarded a Senior Examination Qualification (SEQ). Participants in the SEQ are required to hold a UTQ certificate (or exemption), or a Basic Examination Qualification (BEQ).
National learning outcomes and qualities have been determined for the SEQ certificate. These guide the proof of competence that participants must provide through a portfolio to be certified. In other words, for obtaining a SEQ certificate participants should provide a number of products so that tangible "evidence" can be assessed in a portfolio. Participants already gather a lot of input for these products during the trajectory. A SEQ certificate is given to the participant after completion and positive assessment of the portfolio.
